What's Up Wednesday?

Wow, time is flying!!!
One week plus 1 day till the
"Country Lane Treasures Barn Sale"
I've been busy thrifting, priming, pricing
and waiting....patiently for
hubby to finish up my barn space.
He installed a really neat barn door
with son #2 last night, it's so cool.
It still in it's original plywood state.
I'm itching to add beadboard or something to
make it pretty like the photos below.
! I don't know if I'll have the time though or
if the guys will want it pretty!

I'm going to tell you a little about the 2 lady prints that I found while thriftying the other day.
I looked up the artist and found that he was a very interesting man.
His name was Philip Boileau.
Boileau was born in Canada in 1863 (some say 4). He was the son of a diplomat and his early life involved time spent in Canada, America and France. He received his education in England and in his early 20's studied Art in Italy. The subsequent decade was spent in various European locations after which he decided in 1897 to emigrate to the United States. While always a passionate artist it was this move to the USA that would secure recognition of his talents.

The next few years were spent painting American society portraits. During this time he met his future wife, a very young actress named Emily Gilbert, and images of Emily began to feature in his work. By 1902 Boileau had established a studio in New York and his works started to achieve recognition and then commercial success. In 1907 he married Emily, he was at that time more than twice her 21 years of age.
Over the next ten years he continued to produce his images of beautiful women and children.
He died in 1917 at his home on
Long Island a victim of pneumonia.

A common hobby in the early 1900's was learning to draw or paint.
Many young artists would learn by
copying or doing their own rendition of a popular artist works.
I think this is his original signature.
I hope you found this interesting, I learned alot.
It's pretty cool to be thrifting and to be able to learn
about the items that
you've found, that's one great  reason to thrift!!!
A great ad that's in the Bradford Topic.

Fix Up Friday(Even though it's Saturday)

Oh well, a day behind is better than nothing.
I finally got around to sewing the pillows today, that I had posted about here.
I have been introduced (thanks S) to pinterest and have been inspired by so many
different things. It's really neat how much info is out there and how many wonderful ideas
people have. Pinterest is like your own bulletin board of favourite things from the
web. You can categorise your boards so it is easy to find your pins. For example I
"pinned" this which gave me an idea to make the pillow shown below.

Burlap pillow with a gathered muslin band and rosette.

My daughter pinned this which gave me this idea.
Two of the pillows that I made from one pillow sham.

This was the underside of the pillow sham. I had fun making rosettes.
Proud of myself, 4 pillows completed today!

What's Up Wednesday?

So happy for the warmer temperatures.
I can get out there and start to paint the furniture that is
awaiting a makeover! Last night I started to sand a couple
of projects. Hopefully today I'll prime them.
Can't wait to see them completed.
Let me know about the projects you're working on.
Just love this headboard.
This is the inspiration picture for my headboard.
A bare and boring stool.

Going to paint this desk a creamy beige.
Lots to do, now to get to it!

Behind the Times

Oh no, I've already not met my goals for the blog.
I'm NOT giving up.
So for today I'll play catch up for yesterday
since I found some nice things this week.

This awesome wicker chair.

A neat purple bottle. I have to do some research on it.

Love the colour of this blue bottle.

A little candlewick edged bowl.

What I thought was a fireking bowl but isn't, it's called Bakeware. I like it anyway.

What's Up Wednesday?

To have a little more structure on my blog I'm going to do regular postings 3 times a week.
I'll do the Thrifty finds on Mondays, linking to
On Wednesday I am going to name that day "What's Up Wednesday". On this day I'll
feature future plans, different thoughts, possibly recipes....
On Friday, that day will be Fix-Up Friday. Here I will show you some of the projects
that I'm working on or have completed.
I really enjoy reading blogs and I want to do more with mine and figure this is
a good way to start.
So for today "What's Up Wednesday" I've shared one thing that I'm planning and I
have another thing to share. I'm cracking open my sewing machine to sew some
lovely pillows. The material comes from a pretty pillow sham that I found on one
of my thrifting adventures. Here are some shots of the before and on Friday I'll show
                                             you the completed projects. Hopefully!!

So pretty and summery.

This was the underside of the sham.

A little more masculine.
All cut apart and ready to make 4 pillows.

My Thrifty Finds

Wow, this past Thursday I hit it right!
I found some really neat things.
Some will be put on Etsy some will be saved for the
barn sale. Hubby and youngest son have been working
on the barn to beautify it,
while I'm finding treasures for the sale.
A pretty metal message board with cute magnetic rosebuds.

A single file metal drawer.

A bamboo birdcage.

A  little jar perfect for Qtips.

Two glass vases perfect for pebbles and a candle.

A pretty platter.

An ordinary glass vase. I like the shape.

A pretty little pink container.

Four pink swirl cups and saucers.
I think that was the best thrifting experience I've had! People were actually checking out my cart! LOL
